Meaning: More than

Formation:

Noun 1 より Noun 2 の方が adjective
Verb-phrase 1 より V-phrase 2 方が adjective
い-adjective 1 より い-adjective 2 方が adjective
な-adjective 1 より い-adjective 2 な方が adjective

Example sentences

彼女よりあなたの方がきれいですよ。
You’re more beautiful than her.
Kanojo yori anata no hou ga kirei desu yo.

ビールを飲むよりミルクを飲むの方が健康にいいですよ。
Drinking milk is better for your health than drinking beer.
Biiru o nomu yori miruko o nomu no hou ga kenkou ni ii desu yo.

英語より日本語の方が難しいと思う。
I think japanese is more difficult than english.
Eigo yori nihongo no hou ga muzukashii to omou.

サスケよりナルトの方が強い。
Naruto is stronger than sasuke.
Sasuke yori naruto no hou ga tsuyoi.

日本よりロシアの方が寒い。
Russia is colder than japan.

I’m taller than my big brother.
Ani yori boku no hou ga sega takai.

給料の低いより、給料の高い仕事の方がいいじゃない?
Isn’t a high-paying job better than a low-paying one?
Kyuuryou no hikui yori, kyuuryou no takai shigoto no hou ga ii janai?

Kimi yori kare no hou ga atama ga ii.

I don’t want to marry someone who thinks his job is more important than his family.
Kazoku yori shigoto no hou ga taisetsu da to omou hito to kekkon shitakunai.

私はその後も、テレビで放送された大方のほかの番組より、このパイロット版の方が出来がいいと思っていました。
I still thought that pilot episode was better than most other things that were on tv.
