Meaning: Now that; since

Formation:

Verb-dictionary form + 上は
Verb-casual, past + 上は

Example sentences

その仕事を引き受けた上は、最後まで責任を持ってやり遂げる。
_sono shigoto o hikiuketa ue wa, saigo made sekinin o motte yaritogeru._
Now that i’ve accepted this job, i’ll have to take responsibility to the end.

社長が決断した上は、我々社員はやるしかない。
_shachou ga ketsudan shita ue wa, wareware shain wa yaru shika nai._
Since the president has made up his mind, employees like us have no choice but to do it.

約束した上は、どんなことがあっても守ります。
_yakusoku shita ue wa, donna koto ga atte mo mamorimasu._
Since i’ve made a promise, i will keep it no matter what happens.

キャプテンに選ばれた上は、頑張るしかない。
_kyaputen ni erabareta ue wa, ganbaru shika nai._
Now that i’ve been chosen as the captain, i’ll have to do my best.

日本に来た上は日本語をマスターして帰りたい。
_nihon ni kita ue wa nihongo o masutaa shite kaeritai._
Now that i’ve come to japan, i want to master japanese and return.

弁護士になると決めた上は、苦しくても頑張らなければならない。
_bengoshi ni naru to kimeta ue wa, kurushikute mo ganbaranakereba naranai._
Now that i’ve decided to become a lawyer, i must do my best no matter how hard it is.

結婚した上は、家族に対して責任を持つのが当然のことだ。
_kekkon shita ue wa, kazoku ni taishite sekinin o motsu no ga touzen no koto da._
Now that i’m married, of course i must take care of my family.
