Meaning: Before long; soon; almost; eventually

Formation:

やがて + phrase

Example sentences

やがて別れがくるのだから、それまで仲良く暮らそう。
Since we’ll eventually part ways anyway, let’s live together peacefully.
Yagate wakare ga kuru no dakara, sore made nakayoku kurasou.

彼女が写真を一瞬睨みつけたが、やがて勢いよく立ち上がった。
She glared for a moment at the pictures then leapt to her feet.
Kanojo ga shashin o isshun niramitsuketa ga, yagate ikioi yoku tachiagatta.

誰も動かなかった。やがて何人かが悲鳴を上げた。
Nobody moved. then several people screamed.
Daremo ugokanakatta. yagate nannin ka ga himei o ageta.

彼は一瞬ちょっと不安そうな顔をしたが、やがて口を開いた。「後で食べるよ。」
He looked slightly disconcerted for a moment, then said, “i’ll eat later.”
Kare wa isshun chotto fuan sou na kao o shita ga, yagate kuchi o hiraita.

彼が群れの中から息を切らして現れた。
Seconds later he emerged panting from the crowd.
Kare ga mure no naka kara iki o kirashite arawareta.

やがて六時過ぎになると、三人の男の子は出かける用意ができた。
Soon after six o’clock the three boys were ready to start.
Yagate rokuji sugi ni naru to, sannin no otoko no ko wa dekakeru youi ga dekita.

道はちょっと下りになり、それからまた上り坂となって、やがて急な山腹の麓に着いた。
The path dipped, and then again began to climb upwards, leading us at last to the foot of the steep hillside.
Michi wa chotto kudari ni nari, sore kara mata noborizaka to natte, yagate kyuu na sanpuku no fumoto ni tsuita.

あなたはジャーナリストとして仕事を始め、やがてある時点で、ずっと幅広い、大きな行動主義へと移行していきました。

The jet taxied to a private terminal somewhere in the vast expanse of narita airport and came to a stop.

やがて私たちは、汚れをきれいに洗い落とし、さっぱりして、テーブルにつきました。
Before long, washed and refreshed, we were seated at the table.
Yagate watashitachi wa, yogore o kirei ni araiotoshi, sappari shite, teeburu ni tsukimashita.

わたしは、山のふもとをとりまくようにして、やがて山あいの峡谷に消えている白い道に目をやった。
I traced the white road winding round the base of one mountain, and vanishing in a gorge between two.
Watashi wa, yama no fumoto o torimaku you ni shite, yagate yamaai no kyoukoku ni kiete iru shiroi michi ni me o yatta.

There will come a day when modern science begins in earnest to study the wisdom of the ancients.
