Meaning: Indicates two contrasting actions

Formation:

Verb-ますstem + つ + Verb-ますstem + つ

Example sentences

ゆっくり二人で、差しつ差されつ朝まで飲みましょう。
Let’s exchange sake cups and drink until morning.
Yukkuri futari de, sashitsu sasaretsu asa made nomimashou.

冷えた体温を回復するために三、四十分間あちらこちら行きつ戻りつした後、子猫のように弱って書斎に移された。
After pacing back and forth thirty or forty minutes to restore the animal heat, i adjourned to my study, feeble as a kitten.
Hieta taion o kaifuku suru tame ni san, yonjuppun achira kochira ikitsu modoritsu shita ato, koneko no you ni yowatte shosai ni utsusareta.
